Since its formation in 1986, Southwest Roofing, a private limited company, has grown to become the largest independent roofing contractor in Scotland. The business has 150 employees operating from depots in Dumfries, Stranraer, Ayr and Livingston.

The company is able to provide the customer with a complete service in roofing which includes slate, tiled, single ply and felt flat roofs. There is also a Roofline division which installs gutters, downpipes, fascias and bargeboards. In addition, each depot has a trade counter which supplies roofing materials to a wide range of trade and private customers.

Due to the quality of its services and products, the company has experienced continual growth. The company directors, who are based at each of the  four operational depots, maintain close control over every job and with their commitment and professionalism ensure that each customer receives a dedicated service.

The company's main areas of operation are Central and Southern Scotland as well as Northern England, although contracts are increasingly being secured further afield.

The current workforce of 150 includes four directors and eight managers. The 124 Tradesmen and Labourers are all employed on a full-time basis and not 'on a price'. This staffing level allows the company to provide the continuity and flexibility of labour to ensure that the customer receives a high standard of service.

Southwest Roofing is committed to the welfare, training and long-term employment of its workforce. The company operates a training scheme for its apprentices and one was recently named 'Apprentice of the Year' at Telford College, Edinburgh. In line with MCG requirements, the company is fully committed to the CSCS scheme. All Directors, Managers and Operatives hold the relevant CSCS qualification and 85% of Operatives are qualified to SVQ level 2 in slating, tiling and re-roofing.

Southwest Roofing is totally committed to the Health and Safety of both its workforce and members of the public. This has been demonstrated by the company winning several industry awards. This commitment to Health and Safety is achieved through regular toolbox talks and risk assessments forums. In addition, Southwest Roofing employs an external safety advisor. Southwest Roofing is a member of the Scottish House Builders Health & Safety Forum.
